Officials believe there might be a 'cattery' operating in Kelowna.
The suspicion is based on the discovery of two persians found under sad circumstances.
A few months ago, a stray persian was found in a paper bag near a dumpster at the back of a mall. It had been attacked by a bird and was near death when it was found.
"She was in really bad shape. The vet said she was probably attacked by a bird of prey and was cut open. She wouldn't have made it on her own," says Mike McGee of the Kelowna SPCA.
The cat called Raven has made a full recovery and is up for adoption.
Then there's Cola -- another persian found in an abandoned house with another persian.
McGee says Cola might have been adandoned because it has no nose which can lead to other health problems.
He says it's possible Cola came from a cattery.
"There's no certainty, but there's probably a cattery operating in our area that is producing and breeding persians and is either not screening homes well enough or is simply dumping what it considers less desirable cats. They're basically mass producing cats and not providing proper living conditions for them."
Like Raven, Cola is also now up for adoption.
