RDCO denies development

The Regional District of Central Okanagan has denied a development permit for a proposed hillside development in the Shannon Lake area.

The development permit was for a 5.25 hectare property adjacent to Shannon Lake Road and Shannon View Drive.

In her report to the board, Regional District Senior Planner, Ilene Watson, had recommended the application be deferred to the new Westside Municipal Council, however, the board decided to reject it outright.

"They defeated it so it's done with the Regional District," says Regional District Communications Coordinator, Bruce Smith. "It's now up to the applicant to go to the new municipality if they so choose."

Smith says there was quite a bit of neighbourhood opposition to the development dealing with the height of the proposed buildings.

He says they also would have required a variance due to the size of the structures.

The developer had proposed 66-terraced townhouses along the hillside plus two terraced-style 12-storey apartment buildings, each containing 88 units.
