The long weekend in May is generally the start of the summer camping season.

Emergency officials are also warning campers that with this hot weather that has just arrived, they need to be careful if they are setting up near streams and rivers.

Kelowna Fire Chief Rene Blanleil says exercise a high degree of caution.

Blanleil also says water temperatures remain much colder than normal due to the cool spring, so watch for hypothermia if you stay in the water too long.
