Local teen wins Canada Day Award

Kelowna City Advisory Committee member, Max Walker, will receive an $1,100 cheque for his contributions to the City of Kelowna.

Walker has been a fixture in local youth forums, speaking out on issues including sustainable transportation, environmental waste issues, and culture.

Mayor Sharon Shepherd, presented Walker with his award on Canada Day.

"We are so excited for Max. He is passionate about so many issued involving our community," says Mayor Shepherd.

"Max has been one of the most committed members of the Youth Forums since their inception in 2005. The voice of youth is essential to provide direction for our future policies and programs.”

The $1,100 was part of the $10,000 TELUS-sponsored prize money recognizing contributions by proactive youth, to local communities and to Canada.
