Canadians prefer high-skilled workers, but see immigrants as underutilized.
Two-thirds support government-sponsored amendments, but large majorities claim immigrants are having a tough time finding work.

  • 83% think attracting high-skilled workers is important to Canada.
  • 66% support the proposal to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • 65% believe the new rules will help ease labour shortages in Canada.
  • 49% believe they will lead to unfair and arbitrary decisions affecting immigrants.
  • 85% think there are too many immigrants in Canada who are not working in their fields of study or experience...

Email Marketing 2008, a new study released by Ipsos Reid, has found that Canadians are continuing to receive more and more email on a weekly basis. This continues the trend seen over the past few years. The average number of emails received increased by 9% in the past year, although the increase is much smaller than the 26% increase observed between 2005 and 2006. The first item I read was that more of us held credit cards this past year and we are using them more than ever for everything. Too many Canadians never pay off that monthly balance. That fact never seems to change. Right now the credit card companies are trying new products in their card rosters to get us to use the cards more often. Retailers are paying more for the privilege of Canadians using their cards to pay the bill. The new Infinite cards are the rage today...

This was an interesting email because I guess I didn’t expect it to happen. Home prices saw an increase in the Seattle area while everywhere in the U.S. was reporting just the opposite...
