A new site and building may be needed to meet the growing space needs of the Vernon RCMP.
City council held a special meeting this week to address staff requirements for the next 10 to 20 years.
According to the RCMP they need an extra 40,000 square feet, which is more than double the size of their current detachment.
A project that size could cost taxpayers around $25 million.
Councillor Barry Beardsell sees no other option but moving the police to another site.
Council has directed city staff to take a closer look into the RCMP needs.
The city will also examine more space for the city works yard on 48th Avenue.
