Speed and alcohol were both factors in a single vehicle accident in the Rona parking lot on Springfield Road in Kelowna Tuesday.
Police say the vehicle hit a retaining wall and went through a fence before coming to rest in an adjacent field.
Witnesses say the car was going at an excessive rate of speed. The driver fled on foot.
"The driver and registered owner of the vehicle, a 30 year old Kelowna man, was located nearby and charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without due care and attention and driving without insurance," says Constable, Julie Rattee.
She says the man's license was suspended for 24 hours due to alcohol impairment.
