Trying to bite a police officer is a sure way to see the inside of a jail cell.

Kelowna RCMP responded to a call of a robbery at the Days Inn on Highway 97 north just after 1 p.m. Saturday.

Constable Julie Rattee says a 29-year-old Kelowna man who was late in checking out of his room was asked to leave by staff.

“This individual became irate and threatened hotel staff while demanding cash back. Officers located the suspect in the parking lot and when they attempted to arrest him, he became combative and attempted to swallow several baggies believed to contain cocaine. During the arrest, the suspect attempted to bite an officer, twice,” says Rattee.

She says police seized more than 40 grams of cocaine and various drug paraphernalia from the man’s possession.

The man is facing charges of robbery, uttering threats, resisting arrest, possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

He is expected to appear in court sometime Tuesday.
