On June 6th 2008, we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Wild Festival for Youth in Kelowna. For a decade, this event has been promoting sustainability and environmental education in the BC Interior and encouraging children to connect with nature. This unique festival has become an event that students and teachers look forward to year round and a symbol of hope for the future of the planet. We are pleased to welcome The Nature Trust of British Columbia as the title sponsor of the festival. The 2008 Nature Trust of BC Wild Festival for Youth will take place at Okanagan College on June 6th during Canadian Environment Week. The theme of the festival is “Get to Know you neighbours of other species”. The activities will include a “Learn to Fish” event at a Hall Road Pond with the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, a hiking adventure with the naturalists of the Regional District of the Central Okanagan, bird box building and painting with the Ogopogo Rotary Club and a live demonstration featuring endangered animals with the Kamloops Wildlife Park. The ultimate goal of the Wild Festival for Youth is to help youth become passionate about the environment by providing them with first hand experiences in nature. The Wild Festival for Youth will also host the awards ceremony for the Western Canadian winners of the 2007 Robert Bateman Get to Know Writing and Art Contest.
