The Historica Fair returns to the Okanagan this May during the Kelowna Museums’ 2nd Annual Okanagan Historica Regional Heritage Fair. An educational initiative of the Historica Foundation, the Historica Fair is an exhibition of student work on a Canadian theme. Students prepare projects to tell stories and share information on Canadian people, places, and events. The students’ projects will be on public exhibition at the historic Laurel Packinghouse, 1304 Ellis Street, on Saturday, May 17th from 11:00am – 3:00pm. Come view the student projects during this one-day exhibition!
The student projects are very diverse and range from biographies of Canadian pop stars (Avril Lavigne, Nelly Furtado), to sports, entertainment, and culture (Sidney Crosby, Karen Kain, Jim Carrey), and even to famous historical figures such as Louis Riel, John A. Macdonald, and Alexander Graham Bell, to name but a few! Students will present their projects in various styles, including live dramatizations and a giant wooden puzzle of Canada entitled “Our Journey… Our Canada”. There will be live entertainment, provided by the Westside Ramblers who are known for their musical interpretations of Canadian history, and a First Nation performance as well as hands-on “pioneer” activities including butter-churning and knitting demonstrations.
