An enchanting evening of Classical Song, Dance and Beauty IN KELOWNA: Saturday May 31, 2008 7:00. PM Rotary Centre for the Arts Tickets $20.00 Ticketmaster.ca 763-8335 The allure is undeniable! Eye and ear will enjoy the beautiful musical maidens of CANDESCA in "Nella Fantasia" ("Our Dream.") Uber sets, couture costuming, custom light design and professional ballet will frame the extraordinary voices of these talented (and gorgeous ) young women. Candesca is directed by Alexandra Babbel whose international opera career has opened many doors for the young group. Candesca's repertoire, including Gregorian chant, Art song, Medieval arrangements of contemporary music, and light classic favorites, revives a passion for vocal music capturing the imagination and the devotion of modern audiences. Established only three years ago, Candesca has already developed a reputation for excellence. The award-winning group opened for the well-known operatic trio, Romanza, at its recent Okanagan show. In addition, Candesca entertained nearly 3,500 people during Kelowna's Christmas productions of the Nutcracker Suite Ballet. "Nella Fantasia" will include the young wunder-vioinist Angela Ruthven, professional ballet prima donna Caitlin Lockwood , and the peerless piano playing of Kelowna's beloved Arnold Draper. Alexandra Babbel will also perform as well as a number of additional guests. Concert-goers will enjoy Handel, Bach, Rachmaninoff, Andrew Lloyd Webber and original arrangements of "Scarborough Fair" and "Over the Rainbow." Co sponsored by Kelowna BMW, Kelowna Mini, Kelowna Chrysler, Vernon Dodge Jeep, Kalamalka Rotary Club, Butcher Boys, Big Foot Industries, Romei Plummer Chartered Accountants and Kelowna Chamber Music Society, "Nella Fantasia" is a fund-raising concert with proceeds to help fund a European tour. |
