A free public forum will be held at the Grand Okanagan Resort on Thursday, May 15 starting at 7:00pm examining why it is important to have a legal system that is independent of politics, what happened in Germany before and during the Second World War and what is happening in the world today in societies where the independent legal system is threatened.
The forum is being held in conjunction with the Exhibit, Lawyers Without Rights, a free exhibit in the South Atrium of the Rotary Centre for the Arts from May 15 to May 24, a travelling exhibit that has been presented in 35 cities in Germany, Israel, US, Mexico and Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver and Victoria, demonstrating what can happen when the rule of law and the rights and freedoms of citizens are undermined by state interference. The Exhibit is presented by the Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre and the Law Society and is locally hosted by the Law Society of British Columbia |
