Wishing For A Well
The Habitat

Time:
Five grade 12 students from Mount Boucherie won the Millenial Challenge Contest on March 7th at the Kelowna Community Theatre for their project Youth Empowering Youth -- the building of youth gardens in Senenga province of Zambia -- a project of the Kelowna-Zambia partnership.

This project involved a simple well, an irrigation system, seeds, tools and educating orphaned youth in agricultural practices in order for them to be self-supportive.

The total amount won for this project was $5000.

The concern of the winning team - Lauren Abney, Lauren Airth, Julia Huggins, Sarah Hogue, and Meghan Schroeder - was that the simple well, although not providing safe drinking water, would in fact be used as a source of drinking water because of its accessibility.

The desire of these students, along with the Mount Boucherie Global Service Club, was to raise the additional $4500 for the cost of a bore hole well which would in fact provide safe drinking water for the Senegan community.

There have been a number of fund raising initiatives at the school, but the major fundraiser is a charity concert at The Habitat, Tuesday, May 27th -- $10 at the door.

Each of the groups performing are donating their time and they are all popular local high school groups.

The City from Mount Boucherie, Kyle Tubbs and group from Mount Boucherie, and Kingdom Cloud from Okanagan Mission.

Quinn Best of The Habitat has been kind enough to donate the space.
