Less than 5 years after the destruction by forest fire of one of Canada's major historic sites, Canadians will be able to once again visit the magic and wonder of Myra Canyon outside of Kelowna, British Columbia.
The Myra Canyon Reconstruction Project Committee announced that Sunday June 22, 2008 will mark the official re-opening of Myra Canyon and its 18 famed railway trestles and two tunnels with a special day long community celebration as part of the BC150 Years anniversary. The official community celebration is open to everyone and both walkers and cyclists are encouraged to come out for the once-in-a-lifetime event. The day will be highlighted by complementary breakfast and lunch sponsored by Sysco Kelowna and presented by the Lions Club and the Salvation Army. A ceremonial walk and cycle from Trestle 17 will be held with a contest to drive the last spike! There will be live music, historical displays and historical characters to recreate the history of the Canyon. Free bus transportation from Okanagan College in Kelowna to Myra Canyon will be offered and the public is also able to drive up to the Canyon.
