Lesson from Richard Zokol part of grand prize in Habitat fundraiser

Habitat raffle golfer's dream

A lesson from one of Canada’s greatest golfers is one of many great golf packages up for grabs in the latest Habitat for Humanity Okanagan fundraiser.

The charity, whose goal is to build homes for anyone in need of affordable housing, is teeing off the Okanagan Golf Experiences Raffle today at 10 a.m. Money raised will help the organization build more homes in the Okanagan, where affordability is a major issue.

The top prize in the raffle is any golfer’s dream. It includes one round of golf for four at Predator Ridge Resort, complete with a cart, as well as a $200 dining credit for dinner afterwards.

The real cool part, however, is your whole group of four can get a private lesson with Canadian golf legend Richard Zokol, who currently serves as Predator’s golf and real estate specialist. Zokol won one official PGA Tour event, the 1992 Greater Milwaukee Open, and also captured an unofficial event.

There are six other prize packages available to be won through the Okanagan Golf Experiences Raffle:
• Rounds of golf at each of the following PlayGolfKelowna.com courses: Kelowna Springs, Shadow Ridge, Shannon Lake, Two Eagles and Salmon Arm. It also includes a complimentary visit to both Kelowna Driving Range and World Beat Family Golf & Recreation Centre.
• Two rounds, including a power cart, at The Harvest Golf Club.
• One round, including a power cart, at Michaelbrook Golf and a golf accessories gift pack.
• Two rounds of golf at Shannon Lake Golf Club.
• Two rounds, including a power cart, at Two Eagles Golf Course.
• Two rounds at Orchard Greens Golf.

Along with all these great Habitat partners, Summerland Golf and Country Club has stepped up with a golfing experience of its own to recognize the amazing volunteers who will make this raffle a sellout through their efforts to sell tickets in the community.

The total value of the packages is approximately $2,500. One raffle ticket costs $10, while you can get your name on three of them for $20. Tickets are only available for purchase in person at all four Okanagan Habitat ReStore locations in West Kelowna, Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton. If you can’t make your way to your local ReStore, tickets will be also available for purchase every Saturday starting June 19 through July 25 at the Canadian Tire in West Kelowna and at the Home Hardware Building Centre on Springfield Road in Kelowna.

There are only 2,600 tickets available, and the draws will take place on July 30 at 4 p.m.

“Habitat for Humanity Okanagan, through all of these months of uncertainty, has had to find new ways to keep our mission moving forward and engage our community using a whole new approach during that time,” Habitat Okanagan director of resource development Danielle Smith says. “Our community has done far more than help Habitat. They have stepped up in a very big way, especially the Okanagan golfing community.”

Habitat is unlike most other non-profit charities in that it offers home ownership to someone who needs it instead of affordable rental housing. Volunteers assist in building the houses with materials that are often donated, and people apply to own the home.

Those who take ownership pay a Habitat mortgage based on their earnings that goes into a revolving fund, and that money is used to build more homes.
