Vernon Silver Star Rotary's Teresa Durning receives presidential citation

Rotary president awarded

Vernon's Teresa Durning has received a Rotary International presidential citation.

Vernon Silver Star Rotary co-president Dave Weatherill says only 20% of Rotary clubs worldwide achieve the citation award.

"We are very proud of Teresa," he said. "She is an amazing and tireless worker for our community."

President Durning accepted the award from District 5060 governor Richard DeRock of Wenatchee, Wash., on behalf of the club's achievements during her presidential year.

"The club reworked programming and brainstormed ideas to achieve success within the confines of COVID," says Weatherill.

Durning praised club members on their resiliency and adaptability.

The club found new projects such as stream keeping, street cleaning, garage sales and local school donations to achieve its giving goals.

The year "fundamentally changed the way the club does things," said Durning, who looks forward to continuing on as an active member of the organization.
